Contemporary medical and dental education is rapidly evolving to reflect the exponential growth in information. Among the changes are the incorporation of computer technology and increasing active student involvement. My current interests include the use of web-based interactive lessons in the teaching of dental biochemistry. Student attitudes and use of the lessons is evaluated as is a correlation between use of the lessons and performance in the course. In addition, the use of team-based learning is being evaluated.
A second interest is the application of critical literature appraisal and database searching to answering clinical questions. An interdisciplinary information technology course was developed for 1st year dental students. Student perception is being evaluated as is the ability of students to apply these principles throughout the curriculum. |
