medical education
The current trend in medical education is to improve the integration between the basic science courses that students take in their first two years of training with the clinical experiences they will have in their final two years of medical school and in residency. One of my current interests is in developing clinical scenarios that require students to apply their basic science knowledge in solving clinical problems. One strategy being used is team-based learning, in which teams of students come to a consensus on the solution of a problem presented to them. This strategy actively engages the students in the learning process.
Another area of interest is utilization of enhanced teaching methods to increase the active engagement of students in the learning of biochemistry. These strategies include the use of team-based learning, audience response systems, and concept mapping.
A new area of interest is helping medical and graduate students to apply ethical principles and professionalism to their clinical practice or research investigations. |
